Today Huami announced the new Amazfit Pace 2 smartwatch under the new model name Stratos!
The new watch is a handsome improvement over the first generation. Using more premium construction, now featuring carbon fiber reinforced polycarbonate base, stainless steel elements, hand polished ceramic bezel and a 2.5D sapphire crystal face. It can compete stylistically with the best watches on the market today.
Sports and Health
Huami has partnered with Firstbeat Data to offer more health information such as: Maximum oxygen uptake(VO2max), Exercise load(TD), Exercise effect(TE), Recovery Time – they’ve also increased the number of sports and health tracking features on the watch itself. Running, Walking, Cycling, Swimming (pool and outdoors), Ellipticals, Mountaineering, Trail Running and Triathlon monitoring are now included. To support the new swimming modes the new watch has 5ATM waterproofing allowing the watch to work up to 50 meters underwater!
Performance
From what we can tell at this time the processor and memory of the watch are unchanged. It still features a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. Likely still the Ingenic #M200S – this is the only disappointment. While the first generation had more than acceptable performance – we normally expect a processor bump in a new update. The battery keeps the same fantastic battery life as the first generation as it is still the 280mAh li-po battery.
Two Models
The new Amazfit Stratos will come in two models a Standard and a Premium edition available for $140 US and $200 US. The only difference we could discern is the watch strap. The Premium apparently comes with a sports strap and a leather strap. The watch hardware remains identical. The Standard edition is available now at the Huami store: CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE
Given the quoted pricing the new Xiaomi Stratos remains one of the most compelling smartwatches on the market today. It’s price and performance ratio can’t be bested and it’s battery life continues to blow all competitors out of the water!
